Ll’inno degli Europei di questa estate è ufficiale: la canzone, presentata ufficialmente nelle scorse settimane, si intitola We Are the People ed è stata realizzata dal dj Martin Garrix e cantanta dal noto gruppo rock U2.

“Martin adora il calcio, quindi questa opportunità è stata enorme per lui, motivo per cui ha puntato al massimo quando cercava collaboratori. Ha passato mesi e mesi a lavorare su questa canzone per renderla perfetta e una volta che Bono e The Edge sono arrivati a bordo, ha raggiunto nuovi traguardi” ha spiegato una fonte del Sun.

Martin Garrix, vero nome Martijn Gerard Garritsen, è un dj e produttore musicale olandese di 25 anni. Attivo del 2012, in particolare nell’ambiente della musica dance e house, è noto grazie a brani di successo come Animals e Scared to be Lonely, realizzato in collaborazione con Dua Lipa.

Gli U2 sono ibvece una nota band irlandese attiva fin dal 1976, i cui elementi di spicco sono il cantante e chitarrista Bono Vox (al secolo Paul David Hewson) e il chitarrista e tastierista The Edge (al secolo David Howell Evans), da sempre affiancati da Adam Clayton al basso e Larry Mullen Jr alla batteria. Nella loro carriera hanno realizzato 14 album di studio e venduto oltre 200 milioni di copie, vincendo diversi premi tra cui due Golden Globe e ben 22 Grammy Awards, cifra che corrisponde a un record assoluto.

L’Europeo del 2021, originariamente previsto per l’estate scorsa ma spostato a causa della pandemia, si svolgerà tra l’11 giugno e l’11 luglio attraverso diverse città d’Europa, tra cui anche Roma, dove si disputerà il match inaugurale.
Le semifinali e la finale, invece, si terranno allo stadio Wembley di Londra, nel Regno Unito.
